Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s rift with the Royal Family could be healed by a “compelling link” that connects the couple with the King, according to a royal commentator.
Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to the US in 2020, in-person meetings with members of the royals have been very rare.
Meghan has only returned to the UK once, for the late Queen’s funeral, and Harry’s visits to his home country have been brief and limited.
But former royal correspondent Jennie Bond has not given up hope of a reconciliation.
Having grandchildren is a powerful tug on the heartstrings,” she told OK! magazine, explaining how Archie and Lilibet could help heal relations.
“I can imagine that the King very much wants the chance to get to know Archie and Lilibet and to create some memories for them.
“The children may provide the most compelling link between Charles and Harry, and convince them both to forgive, if not forget, the bitter rows of the past.
“I fervently hope that Harry will not follow Meghan’s example of remaining obdurately estranged from her father and most of her family.
“Maybe Archie and Lilibet hold the key to reconciliation between Charles and Harry.”
It has previously been reported that the Kind is “sad” he is so absent from his grandchildren’s lives.
Archie was less than a year old when his parents chose to leave the UK.
Meanwhile the King has only once met Lilibet in person, with the Sussexes’ second child born in June 2021.
Earlier this week ex-royal correspondent Michael Cole told GB News His Majesty is “desperate” to know his grandchildren.
“It’s very hard for the King not to see his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” he said.
“They could quite easily have had Princess Lilibet baptised at Saint George’s Chapel at Windsor. But they chose not to do it.
“And the King, he’s had a tap on the shoulder. He’s got cancer.
“He realises time is short and he desperately wants to know his grandchildren.”
