Cat Deeley was stunned to find out her husband Patrick Kielty was awarded an honorary doctorate.
The comedian recently replaced Ryan Tubridy as host of The Late Late Show, after the latter decided to take a break from the spotlight.ย
But in other news, Patrick was also the recipient of an honorary doctorate from Ulster University for his contribution to the arts.
However, when he was asked who should be the next recipient of an honorary doctorate, Patrick suggested his wife Cat Deeley,ย
known for her work at the helm of ITV โs This Morning.
In another breath, Patrick revealed his other half was in complete disbelief when she learned he had received the prestigious honour,ย
as he said: โI think Cat Deeley would be a great one to give an honorary degree to. Then she would believe Ulster University has given one to me!โ
According to him, Cat has been unable to attend Ulster University due to her professional commitments, particularly on This Morning as he pointed out: โApparently when youโre hosting a live show Monday to Thursday, you donโt get time off. She couldnโt believe that Ulster had given me this honour โ she still thinks Iโve come back for a wee break here and just pretended to get an honorary degreeโ, he added.
Patrick also added, when asked what he would recommend to Ulster students wishing to kickstart their career in the arts and entertainment: โMy advice for someone who wants to get into entertainment is: donโt! Clearly older comedians like me still need to work so I would say do a degree and go into something completely different, please donโt come and steal my dinner!โ
