Ryan Serhant is getting real about Jonathan Normolleโs firing in the โOwning Manhattanโ Season 1 finale.ย
The Serhant. Real Estate founder, 40, tells Page Sixโs โVirtual Reali-Teaโ podcast that he finds Normolleโs claim that he planned his own termination from the agency farfetched.ย
Serhant quipped, โI havenโt publicly commented. All Iโll say is I donโt fault anyone these days for trying to control their own narrative. Itโs like the facts were on a global Netflix TV show.โ
โWhen clients come on the show, they say, โI want to be on, but donโt make me look bad,’โ he explains. โI tell them, โThen donโt say anything that makes you look bad.’โ
Normolle, 27, sparked drama on the Netflix reality show, which premiered last month.ย
He and fellow Serhant real estate agent Jessica โJessโ Markowski recorded a podcast episode, during which Normolle made vicious judgments about several of their colleagues. Markowski, 31, participated in the conversation, but her comments were notably less harsh.
As seen in the final episode of โOwning Manhattan,โ Serhant confronted Normolle about the situation on top of The Edge at New York Cityโs Hudson Yards and ultimately gave him the pink slip as cameras rolled.ย
โItโs so awkward. It wasnโt my intent,โ the โMillion Dollar Listing New Yorkโ alum recalls to โVirtual Reali-Tea.โย
โI donโt hire people with the intent to fire them,โ he continues. โI didnโt hire any of the agents โ who are actual real estate agents, who are actually at our company โ with the intent to let them go. That was super uncomfortable.โ
Normolle, for his part, claimed in a recent interview with the Daily Mail that he was the mastermind behind his own firing, further boasting that Serhant fell into his trap.ย
โIf I donโt act like a CEO, then Iโll lose all the good people and thatโs a tough lesson for me to learn,โ says the โBrand It Like Serhantโ author, who oversees a team of roughly 750.ย
Ryan Serhant is not holding back when it comes to discussing Jonathan Normolleโs termination in the Season 1 finale of โOwning Manhattan.โ The real estate mogul, 40, expressed disbelief at Normolleโs claim that he orchestrated his own firing from the agency, calling it farfetched.
During an interview on Page Sixโs โVirtual Reali-Teaโ podcast, Serhant hinted at the importance of controlling oneโs own narrative in todayโs media landscape. He likened the situation to a global Netflix TV show, where facts can be skewed or manipulated.
On the show, Serhant shared how clients often want to be featured but also want to ensure they are portrayed positively. He emphasized the need for individuals to be mindful of their words and actions to avoid negative portrayals.
The drama unfolded when Normolle, 27, made disparaging remarks about their colleagues on a podcast episode with Jess Markowski, another Serhant agent. While Markowski joined in the conversation, her comments were notably milder compared to Normolleโs.
In the final episode, viewers saw Serhant confront Normolle at The Edge in Hudson Yards before ultimately terminating his employment. Reflecting on the awkward encounter, Serhant admitted that firing employees was never his intention, highlighting the uncomfortable nature of the situation.
Normolle, on the other hand, painted himself as the mastermind behind his own dismissal in a recent interview with the Daily Mail. He boasted about luring Serhant into his plan, suggesting a level of manipulation in the events leading up to his firing.
Despite the challenges he faced with the situation, Serhant acknowledged the importance of acting like a CEO to retain top talent within his team of around 750 individuals. The โBrand It Like Serhantโ author expressed a commitment to learning from such experiences to better lead his team.
