Katie Price has revealed her heartbreak after being forced to withdraw her disabled son Harvey from his ยฃ350,000-a-year residential college, with the council now refusing to fund his fees.
The 46-year-old former glamour model expressed frustration after her local authority refused to fund care for her 22-year-old son Harvey, citing no healthcare needs post-college withdrawal.
Katie has even revealed that an assessor said that they believe Harvey โonly needs social care
Harvey is Katieโs eldest child, and he has a genetic disorder called Prader-Willi syndrome, as well as being partially blind, autistic, and having septo-optic dysplasia.ย
He was being supported at the National Star College in Gloucester, but Katie was forced to pull him out of the residential college earlier this year amid her bankruptcy woes.
In March she shared how โWest Sussex Council wouldnโt fund himโ at a college too far from where she lives with her now sharing her fears of how he might be moved into social care.
Speaking on The Katie Price Show this week, the much-loved TV star who is currently facing financial struggles said: โThe socials came back yesterday, the people who do the funding, and they believe by seeing Harvey that Harvey has no healthcare issues.
โThat he only needs social care. They think he has no health problems so theyโre not funding, and want him to live in a social care place.โ
She went on to add how her sonโs doctors and social worker are urging her to appeal the decision, with Katie adding on the podcast: โSo now obviously the doctors and all that are good with me. He has a passport for the hospital, heโs on medicine to keep him alive, heโs cortisol deficient so can go into adrenaline crisis at any time.
โIf heโs ill he ends up in hospital, what are they on about? Anyone out there if youโre in a situation like me, like everyone knows Harvey has healthcare issues, itโs been documented and Iโve done documentaries on it, but they just think itโs behaviour.โ
Katie added: โIโm like โare you kidding me?โ, and Iโm now having to appeal, even his social worker from West Sussex is like โyouโve need to appeal itโ. They disagree with it. Itโs all because of money.
