Prime Minister Keir Starmerโs Euros claim left TV presenter Piers Morgan unable to resist making a cheeky demand.
Piers Morgan called for Sir Keir Starmer to resign if one thing goes wrong this evening.
Starmer, 61, became the new Prime Minister after a historic General Election win. He began his new role by flying to Washington to attend the NATO Summit.
He was questioned by the press while on board, with one probing the politician about Englandโs upcoming game against the Netherlands in the Euros.
Asked for advice to Gareth Southgate, Starmer responded, โWin!โ He will attend the NATO summit with 31 leaders, including Dutch PM Dick Schoof, during the Euros semi-final tonight (July 10).
He told reporters, โOur phones are taken off us in the council, so weโll get notes with important summit information. Hopefully, one or two will update me on the score, as I canโt get it otherwise.โ
Starmer added: โEngland have not missed a penalty under a Labour government in 2024.โ Under the post, The Guardianโs political editor Pippa Crerar declared: โWhat a way to jinx it!โ
Piers re-shared the post, adding the caption: โ OMG โ if England now lose on penalties tonight, Starmer will have to resign.โ It comes after the broadcaster praised Novak Djokovic for being a โmonumental d***โ at Wimbledon before offering the tennis star an interview.
The former world No 1 stormed out of a BBC interview on Monday hours after he branded the Centre Court crowd โdisrespectfulโ.
He became frustrated with the line of questioning and having already asked the interviewer to move on from asking about his spat with the audience, the 37-year-old cut the conversation short.
While Djokovic has been criticised for his outbursts at Wimbledon, Morgan praised the 24-time Grand Slam champion for behaving like a โmonumental d***โ and hitting back at what he perceives to be unfair hostility.
The TalkTV host wrote on X: โDjokovic is being a monumental d*ck at Wimbledon this year, and Iโm all here for it. He deserves way more respect than he gets, from fans & media, and heโs obviously bored with pretending heโs OK with it. Letโs do an interview, @DjokerNole โ I wonโt treat you like this.โ
Piers Morgan couldn’t resist poking fun at Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s recent Euros claim, jokingly calling for his resignation if things go awry. Starmer, who recently assumed the role of Prime Minister following a historic election win, wasted no time in getting down to business by attending the NATO Summit in Washington.
During a press interaction on his way to the summit, Starmer was asked for advice for England’s upcoming game against the Netherlands in the Euros. His response was simple yet impactful – “Win!” As he gears up to join 31 other leaders at the NATO summit, including Dutch PM Dick Schoof, Starmer humorously mentioned that keeping up with the Euros semi-final score might prove challenging due to the restrictions on mobile phones at the summit.
In a light-hearted moment, Starmer pointed out that England has not missed a penalty under a Labour government in 2024. The Guardian’s political editor Pippa Crerar chimed in, jokingly suggesting that Starmer might have jinxed England’s luck in the Euros.
Piers Morgan, known for his candid commentary, couldn’t resist chiming in on the situation. Reacting to Crerar’s comment, Morgan playfully suggested that if England were to lose on penalties in the upcoming match, Starmer would have to resign. This banter comes on the heels of Morgan’s recent praise for tennis star Novak Djokovic, whom he described as a “monumental d***” for his behavior at Wimbledon.
Despite Djokovic facing criticism for his on-court demeanor, Morgan applauded the player for standing up to what he perceived as unfair treatment. Expressing his support for Djokovic, Morgan invited him for an interview, promising to offer a different perspective from the usual media scrutiny.
