Emma Roberts has opened up about Julia Robertsโ global stardom, recalling it was โreally scaryโ to witness the level of fame her aunt garnered.
Emma โ the daughter of Eric Roberts and niece of the โPretty Womanโ actressย
explained on the โTable for Twoโ podcast Tuesday that fame comes with its downsides.
โI saw very up close what that really looks like with my aunt Julia,โ the โAmerican Horror Storyโ star, 33,
ย told Bruce Bozzi after being quizzed on her goal of becoming a โmassive movie star.โ
The โWild Childโ actress added that she โalways wanted to kind of carve my own pathโ instead of following in the footsteps of her Oscar-winning aunt.
โFame has never been the goal, because fame at a certain level is kind of scary,โ she said.
โEven in my later teens, I was like, I never want my fame to outweigh my work,โ she added. โBecause thereโs nothing scarier to me than being so famous that youโre never left alone, but also youโre not getting good jobs.โ
Elsewhere, Emma weighed in on the โnepo babyโ debate, saying there are โtwo sides of the coinโ to it.
Since making her acting debut in โBlowโ at age 9, Emma has been in the spotlight for her career accomplishments, but also for her firm Hollywood connections.
However, she claimed that with a famous family comes added pressure โ but typically only for women.
โI always joke, โWhy is no one calling out George Clooney for being a nepo baby? [His aunt] Rosemary Clooney was an icon,โโ she said.
โI feel like young girls get it harder with the nepo baby thing,โ she added. โLike, I donโt really see people calling out sons of famous actors.โ
Gender aside, Emma said she doesnโt think โanyone should be called out for wanting to follow their dream.โ
Emma explained that the public โloves an overnight success story,โ which drew an easy target on her back from a young age.
โAnd so if youโre kind of not the girl from the middle of nowhere that broke into Hollywood, thereโs kind of an eye roll of like, โWell, your dad was this,โโ she said.
On top of that, Emma explained that people who criticize the children of the rich and famous often donโt see the full picture.
โPeople only see your wins, because they only see when youโre on the poster of a movie โ they donโt see all the rejection along the way,โ she said.
