Beloved comedian Bob Mortimer is said to have become the victim on an online dating scam despite being happily married as fraudsters pose as the Gone Fishing star
Comedian Bob Mortimer is reportedly being used in an online dating app scam, despite being married.
The TV star, 65, has appeared on dating site Tinder, according to reports. Bob is happily married to wife Lisa Matthews, having wed in 2015 after over two decades together.
The Vic and Bob double act star is believed to have had his information stolen by fraudsters who have created a dating profile.
The fake account has seen Bob been given a new name โ Kyle โ and has even taken 15 years off his age.ย
The profile reportedly stages Bob works out โevery dayโ and is interested in yoga, meditation, theatre and cafรฉ-hopping. In a nod to Bobโs hit series Gone Fishing with Paul Whitehouse, the bogus profile states he has fish as pets.
The account also features photos of Bob, including one of him watching football that was posted on the comedianโs official Instagram account in March 2023. According to The Sun, other photos on the fake profile include Bob tucking into a large portion of fish and chips.
Last year, Bob admitted it was the โworst ever yearโ for his health, after he had shingles on top of his struggles with rheumatoid arthritis and heart troubles. He had a triple bypass surgery, when his heart was stopped for 32 minutes. Bob since shared he had an experience that made him believe in life after death.
He said: โI did see the light at the end of the tunnel. I experienced going towards the light and feeling happier than I have ever felt, ever. It was quite extraordinary, and then I woke up a day later and I was OK. I thought, โThis is great. I no longer fear death and everythingโ.โ
After mentioning his 2015 near-death experience on a podcast with Kathy Burke, he said: โLoads of people wrote to me and said, โItโs because your body gives out loads of PCT, some chemical to get you through that and it gives you these hallucinationsโ. I was a bit sad about that.โ
Bob underwent surgery after doctors discovered 95% of his arteries were blocked, and told him he risked having a heart attack on stage. His prognosis was so bad that he decided the time was finally right to marry girlfriend of 22 years Lisa Matthews, with whom he has two sons, on admission day.
The Gone Fishing star since admitted that last yearโs health problems were โworse than my heart periodโ. Already dealing with rheumatoid arthritis, which was in remission for 30 years before flaring up in 2022, he got shingles. This combination of health issue caused the muscles in his body to wither and said now he can no longer exercise like he once could. He estimated that as much as 80% of the muscles in his legs have been lost due to his illness, and fears he may never run again.
