Keane frontman Tom Chaplin has had a tumultuous time in the spotlight during his decade-spanning career with the band.
The group became one of Britainโs biggest bands in the early 2000s and even rocketed to fame in the United States.ย
But in 2013, the band split amid a string of personal issues.
Baby-faced singer Tom stunned fans in 2006 when he admitted heโd checked into a clinic for drink and drug problems following a gruelling tour schedule with his bandmates.ย
In an interview back in 2016, Tom admitted heโd hit rock bottom and pushed his wife and daughter away as he struggled with his addiction.
He shared: โWhen I was still in Keane, I was scared of confronting what was going on in my life. I was very self-conscious, I was hiding in plain sight but I was a mess underneath.
ย I didnโt know how to manage my emotions, so I began self-medicating.โ
During those dark periods in his life, Tom spent most of his days locked up in his home and crying in front of the TV. He said heโd despise it when his friends or bandmates would come over to see him and when they did, he would refuse to open the door.
He previously told the Guardian: โMy bandmate Tim would come to my house and Iโd refuse to answer the door. I was spending a lot of time at home crying in front of Cash in the Attic. I felt really depressed. I was taking a lot of drugs and drinking.โ
The singer eventually sought professional help to face his demons after his life spiralled out of control. He added: โIโve gone through very heavy therapy and psychosis. Everyone has said to me that it must have been so horrible, but I found it to be an adventure.โ
The musician โ who will release his third solo album โMidpointโ later this year โ spent therapy for 10 years and was forced to reflect on his life choices during the height of the pandemic. He recently told the Sun: โFor a lot of people it was a very reflective time. It is funny because I have been in therapy for well over 10 years now and I thought at that point, โIt is probably time I ended this. It feels like a natural cut-off.
โThen during the lockdown I was doing it online but suddenly a lot of questions started to come up in my mind, I think partly to do with that period of reflection.
After making a surprise comeback, Keane are set to seal their triumphant return with a performance at Glastonbury on Saturday alongside other acts including Coldplay.
During an interview with iNews back in 2022, Keane singer Tom caused quite a stir after giving his controversial opinion on the group.
While sharing his thoughts on how the band could improve, the star said: โWhere Coldplay have got to now,โ he continues, โseeming to chase โ oh God, am I going to get into trouble for saying this? โ to chase something thatโs, well, thatโs gone, with all those collaborations and working with certain peopleโฆ I just feel Iโd much rather Chris wrote an album about midlife himself, because Iโm sure heโd have a lot to say.โ
