Violet, daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, consistently wears a face mask with her parents, citing its importance in a passionate speech at an LA County Board of Supervisors meeting.
Ben Affleck’s daughter has finally revealed why she always wears a face mask.
The 18-year-old, who Ben shares with his ex wife Jennifer Garner, is often papped with the face covering when out with her famous parents – even in the sweltering Californian heat.
Some suspected the teen was using the mask to protect her privacy considering her status as the offspring of two of Hollywood’s biggest A-listers.
However, Violet has now shared the real reason for wearing the accessory in an impassioned speech at a meeting at the LA County Board of Supervisors as she spoke about her secret health battle.
In 2019, Violet experienced a post-viral condition, leading her to advocate for mask-wearing to protect against viral repercussions based on her own experience.
She began her speech: “Hi, Violet Affleck, Los Angeles resident, first time voter, I’m 18. I contracted a post-viral condition in 2019. I’m okay now, but I saw first-hand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses.”
Violet then listed her ‘demands’, continuing: “To confront the long COVID crisis, I demand mask availability, air filtration and Far-UVC light in government facilitates, including jails and detention centers, and mask mandates in county medical faculties.”
The eldest daughter of the Batman star, 51, and the 13 Going on 30 actress, 52 — who divorced in 2018 — also strongly opposed mask bans.
She said: “You must expand the availability of high-quality free tests and treatment, and most importantly the county must oppose mask bans for any reason. They do not keep us safer. They make vulnerable members of our community less safe, and make everyone less able to participate in Los Angeles together.”
Violet then spoke about the COVID-19 pandemic and how “one in ten infections leads to long COVID, which is a devastating neurological, cardiovascular illness that can take away people’s ability to work, move, see and even think.”
Following her speech at the meeting where the public can register to speak on specific issues, the teen was praised for speaking out.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter one person shared: “At 18 she has more courage than some people will ever have in their entire lifetime.” Another wrote: ‘” wish more celebrities had the courage of Violet Affleck. She’s only 18 years old and is doing more than any politician.” While a third posted: “Violet Affleck is Ben Affleck’s daughter. She continues to be even more impressive as a teenager. I can’t wait to see what she does as an adult.”
Violet has always been seen wearing a mask in recent years, though her parents never publicly explained why. She was seen sporting one at Michael Rubin’s White Party in 2023, recently in May 2024 while spending time with her mum, and also while attending a Broadway show with Ben and current stepmum, Jennifer Lopez.
