Jeremy Renner has detailedย his near-fatal horror snowplow accident as he revealed he remembers his skull โcrackingโย
and showed off his scars for the first time in a shirtless snap.
Theย 53-year-old The Avengers star โ who is set to join the cast of Knives Out 3 โ got candid about the harrowing scene in which he was run over by a 14,300-lb.ย
snowplow on January 1, 2023, in Reno, Nevada.
He told Menโs Health in a recent cover story: โIt undulates, because thereโs four sections of tires with these metal tracksย
it pulls it like a tank. I remember every undulation.
โI remember my head cracking on the thing and it just pressing on me โ itโs exactly like you think it would feel. An immovable object and a crushing force, and somethingโs gotta give.โ
Renner also showed off his scars for the first time as he bravely posed for a shirtless snap including one massive marking under his right shoulder blade.
Jeremy did not spare any of the gruesome details but did express his gratitude as it could have somehow ended up worse than it actually had.ย
He continued: โBut thank God my skull didnโt fully give. And then it kept going. Undulate, undulate, undulate, undulate.ย
โCheekbone broke, eye socket broke, and then from the crushing of getting run over by the machine, my eye bulged out. I could see my left eyeball with my right eyeball. I was screaming for a breath.โ
The star went into detail about how he tried as hard as he could to breathe but everything he did simply didnโt work.
He said: โThere was no breathing happening. Itโs hard to use your stomach muscles when you have 14 broken ribs and a popped lung. I donโt know this at the time โ I just needed to get air. I was going through the checklist of my body, figuring it the f*** out.
โThe first five minutes were about how Iโm going to breatheโฆ I started getting really tired. My heart rateโs going lower, lower, lower. Huooohohh, huooohohh, just this exhaustive breathing for 45 minutes.
โBut with the exhaustion there was almost peace. The EMTs arrived and I thought, I have to give my body up to them, because Iโm cooked. Iโm not getting up. These arenโt just cramps. Iโm not gonna walk back down the driveway to see my family.โ
He told Menโs Health that he told himself at the time to โfocus on breathingโ until EMTs arrived on the scene to rescue him.
He described:ย โShowering, going to the bathroom โ everything was a disaster. Whooooooooo! They give you medications so you donโt go to the bathroom, so you get constipated. And you pee in a jar. It was awful. Thatโs when you know things arenโt going great โ youโre peeing in a plastic jug.ย
โIt took me 17 minutes to get out of bed. I was happy to sometimes sit up and push myself into a chair and move a little bit. But a shower โ everything took like half a day. I couldnโt get stuff wet. Your hair gets super greasy and gross and you stink, but I had all these staples I couldnโt wet, and I wasnโt going to f***ing risk infection. So I had sponge baths.โ
Jeremy had several injuries including 38 broken bones including his ribs, knee, ankles, pelvis, face and hands.
In addition he also suffered a collapse lung, pierced liver, and major laceration in his head.ย
The Oscar nominee pushed through it all and willed his way back to health while impressively maintaining a positive outlook.
He said: โI have to get better than I was today. Thatโs all that fโing matters. Iโm not setting a high bar here.
โThe only thing we can control in our lives is our perspective.โ
Last month it was revealed that the talented star had taken a role in the third movie in Rian Johnsonโs acclaimed Knives Out franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Renner spent 12 days in ICU which he called a โf***ing disaster.โย
Jeremy has not starred in a film since 2019, when he played his Marvel role Hawkeye in Avengers: Endgame and had a voice part in the animated movie Arctic Dogs.ย
Since then, he has booked a number of television roles, including the Hawkeye series on Disney+ and his acclaimed turn on Mayor Of Kingstown.
However, his career was dramatically interrupted on the first day of 2023 when he suffered a harrowing accident that nearly cost him his life.
The Hurt Locker star was crushed by a 14,330 pound snowplow while trying to prevent it from running over his nephew in rural Nevada.
He sustained a wide array of serious injuries, including over 30 broken bones โ and he later disclosed that one of his eyes even popped out.
Jeremy underwent an exacting months-long recovery process, which he documented on social media to the awe of his fanbase.
His ribcage and one eye socket are now held in place by metal plates, while a titanium rod had to be screwed to his broken left shin, among other measures.
โThe body is miraculous,โ he wrote in the caption of a workout video. โEven though I feel like the Tin Man, needing oil for all my new joints (hips, knees, ankles, tibia etc). Encouraged after this warm up to press on (donโt tell my PT).โ
