Britain’s Got Talent Star Connie Talbot Shares Her Terrifying Experience: “I Suffered an A.B.U.S.E After the Show”

Britainโ€™s Got Talent star, Connie Talbot, has revealed her terrifying stalking ordeal after appearing on the show, aged just six.

The singer, now 23, shot to fame on the ITV talent show, where she finished runner up on the first series of of the primetime programme back in 2007.

With her angelic rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Connie had legions of fans around the world.ย

However, she has now revealed the dangers of her popularity, explaining that an adult man tried to approach her, posing as a journalist.

Speaking about the โ€œdarker sideโ€ of fame, she recalled: โ€œ[Fame] exposed me to the darker sides of the world that probably a child wouldnโ€™t hear of till later in life.

โ€œWe got approached by a journalist who was meant to work for a newspaper but it turned out that he was just interested in children,โ€ she told the DEEP YouTube channel.ย

Connie continued: โ€œLuckily I was protected by my mum and dad but that was probably the first time I realised safety was a massive thing for me.โ€

Connieโ€™s parents were so concerned for her safety that a bodyguard accompanied her to school after her appearance on the ITV talent show.

She recalled: โ€œI remember when I first got off the show, I had a bodyguard called Danny who was 6โ€™10. Heโ€™d follow me to school everyday, be with me on the playground. People would climb the trees outside my school to get a photo of a little girl in uniform which is just gross.โ€

After Britainโ€™s Got Talent, which Connie insists did definitely not make her โ€œmega richโ€, she released her debut album Over The Rainbow in November 2007. It was certified gold in the UK and double platinum in South Korea. She released Christmas albums in 2008 and 2009 and a fourth album in 2012. Her most recent song, Growing Pains, was released last year.

Connie said of BGT: โ€œIt feels like that was the beginning of my life, because I donโ€™t really remember anything before that. But I remember bits of the show. At it was just, I really just wanted to be on the X Factor and obviously I was too young, so I was like: โ€yesโ€™ this was the next thing.’โ€

She continued: โ€œAnd It was the first season so there were no expectations for the show whatsoever. It just started as a fun day out. Itโ€™s given me a career today, which is incredible. Iโ€™m so lucky.โ€

When asked whether she was looked after on the show, she explained the motto she was given was โ€œjust have fun,โ€ adding: โ€œIn my head I was Leona Lewis on stage singing Over the Rainbow.โ€

She described how her bodyguard, named Danny, would ensure her safety both at school and in public places, highlighting the extreme lengths her family went to in order to keep her safe.

Following her time on Britainโ€™s Got Talent, Connie released her debut album titled Over The Rainbow, which achieved significant success. Despite not becoming โ€œmega richโ€ from the show, she continued to pursue her passion for music and released several albums, including Christmas albums and her latest song, Growing Pains.
