Chloe Bailey has opened up about her bond with Beyoncé and how the industry can help protect future child stars.
Despite only being 25 years old, Chloe has conquered both the music world and the big and small screen,
with multiple hit records under her belt and appearances in some huge TV shows and movies.
The young star has been penning songs since age 10 and was catapulted to fame as a teenager.
Despite being well adjusted with a strong team around her, Chloe knows it could have been very different and has some advice for budding child stars and their parents.
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror earlier this month, as former child star Ariana Grande revealed she thinks therapy should be mandatory
for minors working in the entertainment industry, Chloe recalled how starting her career at a young age was 100% her decision.
“If I had to give any advice, I would say, don’t push your children too hard because they’re still innocent, pure beings, and love them kindly, unconditionally,” the Exorcism star mused as she shared her tips for parents of child stars. She then recalled how her parents were initially against her uploading music to YouTube.
Chloe and her little sister Halle Bailey launched their YouTube channel at the ages of 13 and 11, respectively. Their covers of songs earned them spots on The Ellen Show in 2012 and a cameo in the Disney series Austin & Ally the following year.
“YouTube was our decision,” Chloe remembers. “When we first did Best Thing I Never Had, we had to beg our parents to upload it, and they were totally against it. And when we did the cover for Pretty Hurts, we uploaded it without asking for permission when they were out of the house, and we got in trouble for posting that one. And then it’s like, look what that one did! Sometimes, you’ve got to listen to your kids.”
Chloe and Halle’s covers of Beyonce’s songs as teenagers caught the attention of the Cowboy Carter hitmaker, who reached out to the siblings following their YouTube uploads. Since then, the mother-of-three has been a constant source of love and support for both women as their careers have blossomed, with Chloe expressing her eternal gratitude.
“I’m constantly in awe of everything that woman does,” Chloe said, full of admiration. “She’s so smart, and I can only hope to one day leave an ounce of my legacy as she has done hers.” If Chloe continues on her current trajectory, it seems likely that the talented star will achieve her goal.
Chloe is starring alongside Russell Crowe in the new supernatural horror The Exorcism. Speaking ahead of the film’s release earlier this month, Chloe praised her Oscar-winning co-star. “[Russell] was so kind to me, genuinely,” Chloe gushed. “He loves music and to laugh and would tell me about Australia and his farm and, you know, just by watching him and how he would get himself into the character. I learned a lot from that, so I’m really grateful to be in a film with him.”
“I’m a lover of God, and I’m grateful that my energy was protected while filming something like this,” Chloe went on to tell Mirror while chatting about the religious themes in Joshua John Miller’s eerie production. “I prayed every day during filming and had sage on me – just like my character Blake does on her set, which I thought was really funny because I was like ‘, Oh yes, this is something I would have done’.”
